In the Evangelical and Reformed Church, each confirmation class participated in a two-year training course, meeting weekly after school on Wednesdays during the school year. This included memorizing the Evangelical Catechism (1929 version). The 1959 class was confirmed on Palm Sunday, 22 March, after an oral examination on March 15 of all 128 questions of the Catechism (from memory, with questions asked at random, and the entire congregation following along in their own booklets). Cathy Price, however, had strep throat on Palm Sunday, and had to answer a random 3 questions on Easter Sunday, March 29th, prior to the entire group having its first Communion.
